The Saudi Pro League title race took a dramatic turn on May 13 as Al Nassr were held to a 1-1 draw by arch-rivals Al Hilal in Round 32. Al Nassr took the lead in the first half through a goal from Simakan, but in the dying seconds of stoppage time, goalkeeper Bento produced a shocking own goal to gift Al Hilal an equalizer.
With just seconds left on the clock, Al Hilal launched a throw-in into the box. Under minimal pressure from opponents, Bento came out to claim the ball but misjudged the flight, possibly distracted by a teammate’s run. He attempted a clumsy parry, similar to a volleyball pass, and inadvertently knocked the ball into his own net.
Despite the setback, Al Nassr remain five points clear of Al Hilal, who have a game in hand. As long as Al Nassr win their final match, they will secure the title regardless of Al Hilal’s result.
