“Matvey can contend for the Lev Yashin Trophy. If he plays in the final match and PSG wins the Champions League,” Kafanov said.
The Yashin Trophy, established in 2019, is awarded annually to the world’s best goalkeeper, with the ceremony held alongside the Ballon d’Or. Past winners include Gianluigi Donnarumma (2021, 2025), Emiliano Martinez (2023, 2024), Alisson (2019), and Thibaut Courtois (2022).
This season, the 27-year-old Russian has cemented his place as PSG’s starting goalkeeper, displacing Lucas Chevalier. In 24 matches, he has conceded 25 goals and recorded 11 clean sheets.
PSG advanced to the Champions League final for the second straight year, defeating Bayern Munich 5-4 on aggregate (1-1 in the second leg) in the semifinals. They will face Arsenal in the title match on May 30 at Budapest’s Ferenc Puskás Stadium.
