On the evening of May 9, with the referee’s whistle, the 2026 “Village Super League” national tournament officially began in the Jixian division of Heilongjiang Province. Over the next eight consecutive weekends, 32 matches will take place in Jixian County, Shuangyashan City, featuring 17 teams and over 300 grassroots players from eight townships, seven communities, and the 291 Farm, all competing for hometown pride.
The excitement is not limited to the field. During halftime, the organizers have turned the break into a celebration of local culture, featuring activities such as eating corn, drinking soybean milk, nibbling watermelon, husking corn, ring tossing, blindfolded shooting, shuttlecock kicking, and tug-of-war. Prizes include local agricultural products and scenic spot tickets. Between matches, performances like singing, taekwondo, skits, folk songs, and cheerleading routines keep the audience entertained, ensuring non-stop action both on and off the pitch.
To the north of the stadium, a food zone with over 40 local specialty stalls draws crowds. In the agricultural products exhibition area, eight processing companies and eight townships display 58 types of local specialties, including fresh corn, freshly ground soybean milk, fried grasshoppers, silkworm chrysalises, and pork sauerkraut stewed with vermicelli. Meanwhile, the intangible cultural heritage zone features live demonstrations of Manchu whirlwind paper-cutting and Jixian willow grass weaving, attracting many young visitors to experience these traditional crafts.
