Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, appears close to tapping into the Spanish school once again, following the success of Luis Enrique with the first team.
PSG won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history last season under Enrique’s leadership, and has once again reached the final this season.
According to French newspaper *L’Equipe*, the Parisian club has reached an agreement with Spanish coach Roberto García Barrundo to take charge of the handball team starting in 2027.
The report indicates that the current coach of Melsungen will succeed Stefan Madsen.
Although the Danish coach has only been in charge of the French team for a few months, PSG’s management is already preparing for a shift in direction in an effort to revitalize the sporting project.
*L’Equipe* confirmed that the agreement was reached with the summer of 2027 in mind, as that is when both Madsen’s and García Barrundo’s contracts with Melsungen expire.
PSG is not considering moving the timeline forward due to the financial cost of compensating both the Danish coach and the German club.
The French newspaper added that Barrundo himself would welcome joining in 2027, allowing him enough time to take part in building PSG’s future team.
The Spanish coach is aiming to join a project tailored specifically to his needs and capable of competing immediately for all titles.

According to the newspaper, the potential arrival of the Spanish coach is part of a new revolution being prepared by PSG’s handball team.
The French club has been working for some time on a comprehensive sporting and economic restructuring, encompassing both the team and coaching staff. The club aims to build a more sustainable project without giving up its ambition to win the Champions League, which is the ultimate goal for the Parisian side.

It is worth noting that Spanish coach Roberto García Barrundo previously coached the Egyptian handball national team.
